PGT · Embryo Genetic Testing

PGT — transfer only the healthiest embryo.

Pre-implantation Genetic Testing screens embryos for chromosomal and single-gene disorders before transfer — boosting implantation, reducing miscarriage, and reducing risk of genetic disease.

Overview

An overview of PGT — Genetic Testing of Embryos

Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) examines a small biopsy of trophectoderm cells from a Day-5 or Day-6 blastocyst — without disturbing the embryo's inner cell mass — to detect chromosomal abnormalities (PGT-A), specific single-gene disorders (PGT-M), or structural rearrangements (PGT-SR).

Who benefits from PGT?

Eligibility criteria we evaluate at the first consultation.

Advanced maternal age (≥ 35 yrs)

Higher rate of chromosomally abnormal embryos.

Recurrent IVF failure

Two or more failed embryo transfers.

Recurrent pregnancy loss

Two or more miscarriages — many due to chromosomal issues.

Known genetic carrier status

Beta thalassemia, sickle cell, cystic fibrosis, etc.

Severe male factor

Higher rate of sperm DNA fragmentation.

Family balancing (where legal)

Subject to local regulations.

How PGT works

PGT adds 4 steps to a standard IVF/ICSI cycle.

  1. 1

    IVF + ICSI cycle

    Week 1–3

Standard stimulation, retrieval, fertilisation (ICSI preferred for PGT).

  2. 2

    Blastocyst culture

    Day 5–6

Embryos cultured to expanded blastocyst stage.

  3. 3

    Trophectoderm biopsy

    Day 5–6

5–10 cells gently extracted from the trophectoderm — does not disturb the future baby.

  4. 4

    Vitrification + DNA shipping

    Day 5–6

Embryos frozen; biopsy DNA sent to certified genetics lab.

  5. 5

    Genetic analysis

    10–14 days

NGS (next-generation sequencing) for chromosomal analysis.

  6. 6

    Frozen embryo transfer

    Next cycle

Only euploid (chromosomally normal) embryos transferred.
